The National
Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC)
received a boost last week in its war against fake and
adulterated drugs when the Nigerian Representative of
Overseas Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (NIROPHARM), donated a
fixed wireless "hotline" phone with installed internet
facilities and a unit of computer set to facilitate its
activities.
Presenting the equipment to NAFDAC Director-General, Dr.
Dora Akunyili, in Lagos, NIROPHARM coordinator, Mr. Remi
Adeseun, who led members on a visit to the agency, said the
"hotline" was being presented to NAFDAC to provide the
public with a better forum through which to pass information
unhindered on cases of drug counterfeiting and illegal
parallel importation of genuinely registered products by
unauthorised persons.
Adeseun stated that the presentation was a demonstration of
the association's commitment to the Nigerian drug market.
He advised the NAFDAC boss to communicate the new dedicated
"hotline" phone to the public and health practitioners so
that more people would be able to come out with fresh
information on any unwholesome products in the Nigerian
market.
Receiving the equipment Akunyili described NIROPHARM's
gesture as a pleasant surprise adding that the association
was helping the country through the donation.
